The World Cafe project encompassed the historic renovation of a 40,000 SF, 1930's Art Deco style industrial building, which met the criteria defined by the Department of Interiors as a Historic Tax credit project. The World Cafe and WXPN Radio, a non-profit nationally syndicated radio station, shared the 40,000 SF building site. The World Cafe is open morning to late night featuring live and impromptu jam sessions, including live radio broadcasts all day long in the "upstairs live cafe". "Downstairs Live" is the main performance venue. It is a remarkably intimate live music theater featuring superb site lines from every seat including the VIP Mezzanine. A large bar at the rear of the space and a variety of seating arrangements provides dinner style seating as well as theater style for major performances. The public spaces were designed to double as queuing space for tecketed patrons and includes retails areas, cocktail lounges, and exhibit areas for artists. The best sound and light technology and elaborate acoustical treatments were key to the project design making the World Cafe one of the best places to listen to music anywhere. |
