Fogo De Chao
Philadelphia, PA

RESTAURANT : BAR : LOUNGE : PRIVATE DINING

The site of this restaurant was originally built in 1915 and until a few years ago was well known as the luxurious Philadelphia home of J.E. Caldwell & Co,; a nationally known jeweler. The classical space is adorned with honey-toned oak millwork, decorative gold leaf medallions, and 14 spectacular crystal chandeliers. To create the new Fogo de Chão in this space required a careful renovation and re-use of as many of the historic elements as possible in the conversion to a restaurant. Fogo de Chão, well known as a one of the best Brazilian Steakhouses, embodies an energetic and vibrant ambience where “Gauchos” provides limitless cuts of meat tableside and where a festive 24’ long salad bar exhibits all varieties of salads, breads, and side dishes.

The design for the conversion is based on mixing dramatic historic elements with new contemporary elements. The new bar is designed with three floating custom crystal chandeliers set against a large historic window allowing a subtle amount of light to penetrate the back bar. The new wine display wall which flanks the entrance allows wine bottle to float within custom colored glass panels. The host desk and wood feature wall with “Fogo de Chão” behind it make for a memorable first impression as patrons enter the restaurant. The new open stair is designed in steel and glass as a modern element. Semi-private dining rooms are created with custom art glass partitions. At the center point of the main two-story space is a millwork screen where alcohol burners fuel a live fire element.
