Working closely with J.
Seward Johnson, sculptor and visionary, DAS designed Rat's as a center-piece
for his 27-acre park "Grounds for Sculpture."
Based on the ambience of a small French country village, the restaurant
features antique chestnut floors, cast stone fireplaces, timber beams,
rich fabrics, and old world furnishings. The outdoor dining terrace
and dance pavilion over-look a pond and footbridge recreating Monet's "Water
Garden." A reconstructed gypsy wagon, which appears to have crashed
into the building, welcomes guests.
The restaurant seats 190 patrons in three distinct dining rooms and
continues to evolve with A new state-of-the-art, two-story kitchen
embellished with ornate tiles, copper details and a 22' long range
suite by Bonnet, from France. A new timber and glass enclosure of
the outdoor dining terrace are being added for year round use. |
