With a nod to the original Wolfgang’s Steakhouse on Park Avenue in mid-town Manhattan featuring a dramatic turn-of-the-century catacomb tile ceiling by renowned artist Rafael Guastavino, Wolfgang’s new location in Tribeca was designed to reflect a more modern interpretation of the historic Guastavino ceiling. Floating domed ceilings made of glass mosaic tile in a pattern designed by DAS capture the essence of the original Wolfgang’s. They are uplighted from floating custom chandeliers to create subtle ambient light throughout the main dining spaces and bar. The tile work was produced by mosaic tile artist, David Inbal from Minos Ltd. in Israel.

Original brick walls and arched openings were featured in the project design conveying the essence of the old Tribeca warehouse space. One enters the restaurant through a frameless glass vestibule and then into the bar and lounge area which utilizes rich mahogany millwork and cast metalwork set against the original brick walls and new walnut floors. At the end of the bar is the contemporary glass enclosed wine room (also frameless) and lit from within like a jewel box to expose the fine wine collection.

While reflecting the imagery of a traditional steakhouse as requested by Wolfgang, the design elements are selected to give the steakhouse a slightly more contemporary flair than expected. The custom lighting, glass features, mahogany bar with cast metal inlays, lit onyx screens, fabric wall panels, tiger grained walnut floors, and red leather seating infuse the old brick walls with a modern richness of tradition and style.
