Part 2 of 3 – DAS’s 2017 trade show update.
By Courtney Klinger – DAS Interior Designer.
At DAS Architects, furnishings and lighting are a crucial part of our designs. As technology and product offerings change, designers stay informed by attending trade shows and educational seminars. Recently our designers attended Global Shop, the annual visual merchandizing trade show in Las Vegas, as well as educational lighting events at A-Light, Birchwood Lighting, Ledra Brands, and Lightfair 2017.
A-Light was founded in 2001 as a new architectural lighting division of the Luminaires Group. The energy-efficient company resides in Oceanside, California in their newly constructed 54,000 sqft manufacturing facility. A-Light has rapidly grown to become a leader in contemporary LED and fluorescent lighting throughout North America.
Their approach to illumination is both functional and exquisite. With the philosophy – form following light – they span the gap of effective architectural lighting, elegant decorative fixtures and ingenuity. The fixture offering from A-Light is divided into two product lines: Elements and Integrations. The varying lines allow designers to create individualized single statements or endless customization utilizing intelligent optical platforms.
Upon arrival to the facility stands an illuminated tree form. The LED sculpture represents the statement of; “it’s not a product… it’s an idea.” The idea is important to A-Light as they are a company who encourages the what if scenarios that others stray away from. With an intimate trial and error loft space overlooking the production floor they can tweak designs and optimize light output for a complete luminary that is not only unique but engineered to perfection.
The Nichia LEDs used by A-Light are the highest quality light emitting diodes offered in the industry. The innovative company has been around since 1956. They are credited for developing the blue LED in 1993 and the world’s first white LED combining yellow phosphor and their blue LED. This white light emitting diode is what’s widely used today.
A-Light prides themselves on being selective. Exclusively using the award winning Nichia diodes ensures the highest quality of light while pairing with the Buy America act ensures local and responsible sourcing of materials. A-Light’s most important suppliers are within a 90-mile radius of their facility. In addition, A-Light goes to the extent of recycling and manufacturing their cardboard packaging on site making them a go to for LEED accredited and eco conscious projects alike.
