The Beacon, a new residential tower ideally situated on the corner of 16th and Walnut streets near Rittenhouse Square, is now open to tenants, with architecture and design firm DAS Architects today unveiling new design details for the property. The building encompasses a renovated historic 6-story property—the former Philadelphia headquarters for Brown Brothers Harriman, the oldest private bank in the United States—in addition to a new 8-story residential high-rise tower.

An elegant blend of modern and historic details will be on display throughout the property’s common areas and 98 residential units. The ground floor lobby showcases a striking contrast of black and white tile complemented by marble walls, stair treads, and glass windows—all original to the space. The tenant corridors and stairs are open to the full height of the building, creating a unique sightline. All of the building’s 1- and 2-bedroom apartments feature exposed original columns and floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing for abundant natural light. High ceilings, light grey wood flooring, and white walls create a serene, minimalist ambience. Eight upgraded units include large outdoor terraces perfect for relaxing and entertaining. Each apartment includes a spacious gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances and natural stone countertops, central heat/air, and an in-unit washer/dryer. Residents will also have access to a 24-hour front desk concierge.
On the 7th floor, a glass-enclosed, 2,200-square-foot amenity space is flooded in natural light, with expansive views of Rittenhouse Square. The ground floor of the building currently includes a 10,000-square-foot Under Armour store with an adjacent, currently unoccupied retail space.
