The ACE Mentoring program is a national organization in which teams of architects, contractors and engineers mentor high school students and encourages them to pursue careers in design and construction. DAS sponsors a such team, with architects Matthew Fromboluti and Brendan Kemmerer joining engineers from Norr and Langan.
Last Tuesday Matt and Brendan led a workshop teaching students about the practice of architecture and letting them flex their design chops. With the mentors roleplaying as clients, teams of students acted as architects, designing houses to meet their client’s unique demands and then building gingerbread-style models of their designs. At the end, the students presented their models to the group in a university-style critique, showing off their creativity and envisioning what their house would be like in real life.
