In the world of design it’s not uncommon for things to change between concept and execution. Cost considerations, engineering issues, or even client input can effect the design. But when you have a team that understands the client’s vision, and the experience to execute the design, it can be scary how close to a reality that vision can become.
The Cambria Hotel in Philadelphia is just such a project. Designed by DAS Architects for Pearl Properties, the 15-story, 223-room boutique hotel sits in the heart of Philadelphia on Broad Street near City Hall. The spiral staircase in the lobby is a particularly significant design element combining a variety of finishes meant to invoke the city’s history of musical exploration.

Then here we have the staircase under construction.

There are a few noticeable differences in wall covering, floor tile and furniture, but overall, it reveals a stunning execution of the designer’s vision and the craftsmanship of the builders.
